Significant changes[]
The following is an overview of major differences between the "Brunker Cut" and the theatrical cut of PAW Patrol: The Movie.
Changes to Chase[]
- In the theatrical cut, Chase is unable to fall asleep. In the "Brunker Cut", Chase has a nightmare of his fears of Adventure City.
- According to Cal Brunker, the sequence of Chase's nightmare made it past the storyboard stage, but was cut due to the audience understanding his fears well enough.
- Others believed that it was removed because the scene was claimed "too scary" for young children.
- After Chase's blue uniform is ripped by Ruben and Butch, he wears a black and silver lined outfit, referencing the 1992 The Death of Superman comic storyline.
- WindowsMyers2018 revealed that he decided to base Chase on Zack Snyder's interpretation of Superman in the DC Extended Universe and Chase choosing the black suit would be an indication that his character journey is not yet complete.
Changes to Liberty[]
- Liberty's backstory is explored.
- Liberty is revealed to be the daughter of Rosie.
- Liberty and Rosie were abandoned in Adventure City by their former owners, but were rescued by Tony, who welcomed them to stay with him at his grocery store.
- In the final battle, Liberty finds Arrby buried under a landslide and pulls him out, helping him get back home to Sid Swashbuckle.
Changes to Zuma[]
- WindowsMyers2018 described his take on Zuma as the "heart" of the "Brunker Cut".
- Zuma's backstory is explored.
- Zuma learns to use his abilities and connecting with his oceanic enhancements.
- Zuma is revealed to be the son of Mary, a chocolate Labrador Retriever who works as an ocean rescue specialist and a lifeguard in Adventure Bay.
- Zuma develops his feelings for Rocky.
- During the final battle in Adventure City, Zuma saves Sid Swashbuckle from drowning.
Changes to Mayor Humdinger[]
- In the theatrical cut, Humdinger was originally conceived with a purple dress jacket and pants, and a blonde mustache and blonde hair. In the "Brunker Cut", he has a white mustache and white hair, and wears black instead of purple.
- In the theatrical cut, Humdinger's voice was high-pitched and more man-liked. In the "Brunker Cut", his voice was low-pitched and more deeper, resulting in a more intimidating and menacing presence.
- Humdinger's relationships with his brother Henry and nephew Harold are explored.
Insertion of lore and backstories for characters[]
Several scenes introducing and exploring in more depth the origins of Marty Muckraker, Delores, Harris, Ryder, and the PAW Patrol pups—Marshall, Skye, and Rubble—were added. In the "Brunker Cut", Harris wears a vest and mentions that he has a kid that needs him, implying that he is a therapy dog.
Characters added or given an increased presence[]
The "Brunker Cut" entirely inserted characters who did not appear in the theatrical version, including Robo-Dog, Everest, Tracker, Sweetie, Arrby, the Princess of Barkingburg, Harold Humdinger, the Duke of Flappington, Alex Porter, Sid Swashbuckle, Raimundo, Ms. Marjorie, Mr. Wingnut, the mailman, and the flight controller. Marty Muckraker's son William and Rubble's father Digger appear in the Adventure City scenes. Harold's father Henry appears in a Foggy Bottom scene.
