Appearance[]

Moonlight is a mixed breed with a similar appearance to every other one in the patrol, except her fur is black like Ash's. She has brown eyes that can turn moon yellow on very special occasion, but it's not completely known what causes it. Her gear is all black with moon yellow at the seams and ends, and her pup tag has a moon on it. She doesn't have the same floppy ear as most of the other mixed breeds, though.

Prologue

Moonlight was born into a loving family as a single pup, and her parents were world class explorers. One day, they stumbled onto an island that they found fit to live on, so they settled there and named it Moonlight Island, after their beloved daughter. Little did anyone know that there was a dark secret in the island's mountain. People came and settled on the beautiful island that was perfect from the beach, to the forests, to the jungles, and the plains. It was a perfect place to live on happily ever after for her parents, who were the leaders of the island, right? One day Moonlight got curious as to what was on the mountain, so she climbed it, since it wasn't very tall. It had always been the one part of the island that was always eerie and gloomy, which made no one even think about going to it. Moonlight peaked the mountain, and found nothing interesting, which was not really a surprise to her, but what was a surprise was when she came down. Her parents had been worried sick the whole time she'd been gone, so when they saw her at the base of the mountain, they ran to get her. Suddenly, when they were all together, an earthquake shook the ground and a crack made them fall underground. Then, a dark figure came and attacked them, and all three of them were horrified. It kept at it's assault until Moonlight's parents realized that it was after them, and not their daughter. They made a deal with it that it could take them, but the darkness would have to leave Moonlight alive, and it agreed. Moonlight cried and dug her mother's chest, begging for her to take it back, but it was too late. Her father came and comforted her as well, and then they were both taken by the darkness. She sobbed there, alone, cold, and the darkness enveloping her, thinking about what she could have done to save them. Then, out of nowhere, the darkness came and went straight into her head, and she held it in pain until she passed out.

Bio

Moonlight woke up, and the first sign to her that she was different, is that she had no relatives. When she opened her eyes, everything she saw was black for a few minutes, and Moonlight was already in a very respected position in her home of Moonlight Island, which was named after her. She was really confused, because just like Mercy, she didn't remember anything about what happened prior, and only knew how to carry out basic life functions, such as eating, drinking, and talking. Then, out of nowhere, her head hurt so much that it knocked her to the ground, and then she felt a cold darkness (which wasn't the void) take over her whole body. From that day forward, she couldn't control many of the actions that she would carry out, and a few days later, she met Chip and Izzy.

Moonlight herself took an instant liking to the two siblings, but the darkness that controlled her didn't. She would constantly lash out at other people for no good reason, but it wasn't her fault because she couldn't control it. Moonlight could usually hold the darkness back just enough to spare Chip and Izzy, but she didn't always prevail. Her life was a constant battle between her and the darkness, and one day she heard people talking about a pup named Starlight. Taking over the darkness for a little while, she asked them politely who Starlight was, and they responded by telling her that she was the only one that could save Moonlight from the darkness. From then on, her main goal was to meet Starlight, and to have her save her so that she could return back to normal, and be herself again.

Ryu, Ash, Starlight, and Comet arrived on the island, and Moonlight knew it, but she couldn't find them. She saw Izzy minding her own business, and desperate to find them, she demanded that Izzy tell her where they were. Scared, Izzy said that she didn't know, and Moonlight struck her with a nightmare beam that left a black mark on her paw. Moonlight realized that she had lost control, and she couldn't bear seeing Izzy cry like that, so she went back to her home and began to cry. It wasn't long before the four visitors, along with Izzy and Chip arrived at her home. She was going to greet them and ask Starlight to save her politely, but the darkness got much stronger than it had been before. She only managed to say, "save me," in a monotone voice a couple of times, before she uncontrollably lashed out and captured Chip and Comet. She was able to control them with a dark mark on their paws, The next time that the rest of them came around was when she sent out Chip and Comet to guard her. Once they had been restored from the mark that she put on them, Moonlight simply, entered Starlight's head.

Moonlight would periodically take control of Starlight's body over the next few days, and she would only be able to whisper for Starlight to save her. Unfortunately for Moonlight, Starlight didn't like her presence inside of her head, so she would fight it. Moonlight felt really bad because the darkness wouldn't let her politely and peacefully ask for her to save her, but one thing that the darkness did was take the last straw, and Starlight had had enough of it. She was forced to hurt her friends by Moonlight, who was forced to control Starlight by the darkness, and she cut them up pretty badly. Starlight got Glow to get inside of her head and settle things with Moonlight, and he complied. Glow freed her from the darkness and Moonlight thought that was the end of it, "no more pain or struggling for this pup!" she thought to herself gleefully, but oh how wrong she was.

Moonlight was always really sorry to Starlight for what she'd done, even if it wasn't her fault, but she didn't get the chance to even apologize before Starlight entered her head. Moonlight didn't want to give up control, but Starlight cut her, so she was forced to. For hours, Starlight forced Moonlight to hurt herself, and she could feel every, single, bit of it. She ran into a boulder and got a really bad headache, and then Starlight forced her to dunk her head into a bowl of water. She wouldn't let her take it out until the very last second, right before her body went limp. Then she made her hit herself with a lot of the tools used in the pups' pup packs, and it gave her a bad concussion. She was crying of immense pain when Starlight forced her to climb on top of the giant lemonade cup. She sounded so desperate when she said that she would do anything, but Starlight didn't care, so she made Moonlight jump off of it, breaking her back paw. She screamed in agonizing pain, and was on the verge of collapse when she was forced to the edge of the bridge. She begged Starlight not to do it, but to Moonlight's horror, she forced her to jump off of the bridge. She hit the water and the impact made all of the pain she was experiencing multiply tenfold, and it was so painful that her whole body went limp and numb. Starlight gave her control back, but she couldn't do anything with it, she was too weak, and WAY too hurt. Moonlight looked with half-closed eyes as she sank deeper into the ocean, and then two gentle paws grabbed her and pulled her onto a boat. She very, very weakly managed to say, "help me," before she threw up all of the water she'd drank and blacked out, becoming completely unresponsive.

The next time she opened her eyes, Starlight was next to her, and to her terror, the pain of everything was still there, even if mitigated slightly by the treatment, she was still in so much pain that she couldn't move. Starlight gave a heartfelt apology, and Moonlight forgave her and apologized back. For some reason, Starlight cried even harder after Moonlight told her it was okay, and that's the last thing she saw before fading into the darkness again. Starlight and Moonlight would reconcile and become pretty good friends over the next few days, but one day, something different happened. Starlight came in, and they had the usual conversation, but then she asked Moonlight if she wanted to feel something other than pain, to which she replied that she did. When Starlight put her paws on Moonlight's head, she was on a beach on a sunny day, and her injuries were gone. She relaxed and let the warm sun send rays deep into her body, until a giant wave came. Moonlight knew that the dream that Starlight put her in would only be good, so this confused her. She forced herself awake and immediately sensed that something was wrong with Starlight. She immediately ignored all of the pain that she felt when limping out of the door and into Bolt. She drove to where the feeling brought her, until she saw Starlight at the edge of a cliff, about to jump off. Moonlight put her to sleep with her nightmare beam, even if it wasn't the most pleasant thing ever, she'd rather her be safe. Satisfied with what she'd done, Moonlight collapsed right next to Starlight as they nearly froze in the snow.

She woke up in Jake's cabin because Everest had saved them, and Moonlight was very grateful for what she had done. On the other hand, Starlight wasn't because she could only think of all the bad things she'd done. Comet and the other two in the Planet Patrol came in and comforted her, and told her that her mistakes were normal, and that they didn't care about it. Moonlight said, "Your mistakes are what make you, you," which is when Starlight put her head on her shoulder. This is when they fully trusted each other, and also when they ate. Moonlight's eyes glowed moon yellow and the whole room flashed white, and she felt every pain and injury go away. Everyone was shocked, and Moonlight explained how she and Starlight were more similar than they thought. Spira came in and hypnotized Moonlight and Starlight for any other bad memories of the whole incident. Moonlight relaxed really nice and cozy, and she got really sleepy. She was so cozy warm and comfortable, that she drifted off to sleep after Starlight stopped swaying her head. She felt so nice and snuggled in with Starlight, which put her into a deep trance as she fell completely asleep. Then she was invited to show her abilities to Ryder so that she could join the patrol. She put Izzy to sleep using a Moonlight Island phrase, and she controlled Chip using a nightmare beam. After restoring them, she joined the patrol with her own vehicle, pup pack, and pup tag, all based off of the colors black and moon yellow. During this whole time, she thought about where she should stay. The first thing that came to mind was with the Planet Patrol, but she figured it would be best if she didn't interrupt the chemistry and dynamic between the four. The whole time she was in Adventure Bay, Moonlight had grown very attached to Katie, and Katie said that she'd let Moonlight stay with her. This was further strengthened by the fact that Cali liked her and would constantly play with Moonlight, which made Katie happy.

Personality[]

Although it's not the most common way to describe a pup, Moonlight is very, very forgiving. She is compassionate towards others and will never lash out at someone without a really good cause. Even if they caused her the most harm that they could (like in Starlight's case) she would forgive them by finding some way to see their reasoning. Moonlight, despite her past, always loves to see the good in people, and completely ignore the bad. She also tends to celebrate other people's accomplishments and events like birthdays more than others. This includes events that aren't specific to one person. She made an amazing birthday cake with the help of Mr. Porter on Zuma's birthday, and on Starlight's birthday, she dyed her fur to the same shade as Star's. During Christmas, everyone secretly hoped for their secret Santa to be Moonlight, because they knew she would get them something meaningful. Also, she cares a lot about how others feel, which makes her good for a lot of things. One primary example of this is when Spira hypnotizes someone, she’ll ask Moonlight if she can join the pup. She will instinctively try to make them feel warm and cozy by snuggling with whoever it is, making her one of Spira’s favorite subjects.

Moonlight is great friends with the entire Planet Patrol, very close to their relationship with each other. Most of this comes from her connection to Starlight, who is her best friend in that branch of the patrol. They're better friends with each other than she is, but Moonlight isn't far behind them. She is also Katie's pup, so they have a strong bond, just like with any pup to their respective owner. Surprisingly, Cali took a liking to Moonlight almost instantly, which Katie is very happy about since Cali doesn't have to be alone anymore. She and Ash like each other, and actually do go on walks and play together, but they're pretty secretive about their love, of course, they’re not good at it.

She doesn't have that many fears except for some mild fears of heights and getting lost. Moonlight also has the common dislikes among the pups such as Mayor Humdinger and Harold. There is one thing that scares Moonlight more than anything, though. One day while Katie was petting her in her lap, Moonlight got a sharp pain in her head and lost control of her body. Everything in the next 30 minutes or so is foggy in her memory, but when she came to, she saw that Katie had a bite mark on her arm, and the whole patrol was standing around her, worried. Silhouette had put her to sleep to protect Katie, but Moonlight came to the horrifying realization that it wasn't her, but the darkness that attacked Katie. Moonlight's only one true fear, is that one day, the darkness will come back for good and overtake her.

Vehicle[]

Moonlight's vehicle was inspired by a rover in some ways, like the ones that are on the moon. Her pup house works as her vehicle and her, well, pup house.

Green Button - Start/Accelerate
Red Button - Stop/Decelerate
Steering Wheel - Steers the vehicle
Moon Yellow Button - Activates the moon-shaped disc light on the front of her vehicle (Works the same way as her pawheld one)
Tablet - It shows her her immediate surroundings, helps her drive safe, has games and music, and can call anyone in the patrol.
Black Button - Opens the compartment with a sleeping mat
Pressure Sensor - It is under the mat and closes the compartment when triggered

Friends[]

Katie - This one is pretty self-explanatory because Katie is Moonlight's owner/caretaker. They care for each other whenever one of them needs it, and one of Moonlight's favorite things to do is play with Katie. Another thing that she loves doing is lying in Katie's lap while she sings Moonlight to sleep while stroking her back. The two have a strong bond with each other and enjoy each other's company, and Moonlight will go to Katie before anyone if she's scared or nervous. (Katie also helps her prepare whenever she has a secret date with Zuma)

Cali - Surprisingly, when Moonlight moved in and forced Katie to share her time with the two of them, Cali still really took a liking to Moonlight. This is partially because Moonlight has a, well, really likeable personality, but it's also because she gave Cali more attention than almost anything else in the parlor. She offered to play with Cali, and the two always have a great time together, Katie usually watching happily as Cali isn't alone anymore.

Ash - They love each other and share things that they wouldn’t tell anyone else. They know they can go to each other for comfort, and they do it often. Ash is a bit more awkward but Moonlight isn’t perfect either, since she spent a good part of her life in the backseat of her mind.

Starlight - Starlight saved her and gave Moonlight purpose, and she is forever grateful for it. Even after Starlight nearly killed her, she still really enjoys her company. Moonlight is great friends with a the whole Planet Patrol, but with Starlight more than any of the others. Part of this friendship is the bonds that they created through one another's minds when they went into each others' heads. A little part of Moonlight stayed in Starlight when she left her mind, and vice versa. This gives them just enough of a connection to know when something is off with the other. This is how Starlight found out about Moonlight and Zuma dating, and how Moonlight found out about Starlight almost jumping off of a cliff.

Comet, Stella, and Terra - These three, although they have a stronger bond with the rest of the Planet Patrol, always find time for Moonlight. They love playing with each other and competing. They'll comfort her when she's sad or nervous and help her when she's in a tough spot. All in all, they are great friends that she's thankful Moonlight has.
